Clos Pegase

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.

Clos Pegase has retained the services of two top-tier Napa Valley consultants, winemaker Paul Hobbs and viticulturalist Tom Prentice, as the winery embarks on an extensive Cabernet Sauvignon revitalization project focused on Palisades Vineyard. The partnership between Jan Shrem, founder of Clos Pegase, his winemaker, Shaun Richardson, and this highly regarded consulting team is just beginning to take shape this summer. The 2006 harvest will be very exciting, Richardson says, as enhancements they have made in the vineyard this season, with input from both consultants, will be coupled with the winemaking expertise of Hobbs, one of California's most recognizable winemakers.

Clos Pegase Hommage Wines is a French word for homage. Jan Shrem chose it as their way of referring to their reserve wines. It is meant as a tribute to the memory of the artist whose painting graces their label and to the artisans, growers, enologists, craftstmen and workers whose efforts are reflected in their wines.

Clos Pegase goes a long way toward setting a spectacular tone. From wine dinners and seminars to corporate meetings, benefits and parties, their hospitality staff has the experience and gracious spirit of service to help one to get all the details from food and decor to live entertainment. People tend to be pretty passionate about the wines they produce. For that reason they created a special club called Pegase Circle. It is their way of offering their most loyal supporters and devotees, the best wines they make each year, along with some exotic varietals not available to the general public. Since they began providing this special service in 1988, they welcomed many loyal members all over the nation, who remain with them every year.

There are many wonderful famous as well as some not so well known areas in California Wine Country that are just right for an enjoyable day of wine tasting. It is always best to get off the beaten track and find the other gold that still exists and enjoy the beautiful scenery along these wine trails in this beautiful State.
