Inspiration Vineyards

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California's landscape is as diverse as its people. From foggy coastlines to dry endless deserts, lush green mountains to rolling hills of vineyards. A morning of snow boarding in the mountains and then ocean kayaking at sunset, this glorious Golden State offers it all.

In 1999, Barbara and John Phillips started producing wine for friends and family, they met while John was working at Mirassou Winery's tasting room in San Jose, California. After leaving Mirassou, John began independently teaching wine appreciation classes on the San Francisco Peninsula and John took classes through University California, Davis Extension in Enology and Viticulture. Then in 1999, Barbara and John produced their first wine, one barrel of Contra Costa Zinfandel using grapes purchased from Rosenblum Cellars.

As production expanded and the medals started validating their efforts, they became more and more aware that steps needed to be taken to move their home winery operations into a larger facility that could be bonded and licensed to produce a commercial product. They bought a beautiful 6 acre property in Sonoma County, complete with 4.5 acres of vineyards in Sonoma County's Russian River appellation.

Their philosophy is simple, great wines can only be made with excellent grapes. As a winegrower, it is their job to pick their fruit at the peak of ripeness and handle it carefully during the winemaking process. The resulting efforts are wines that show off the region and vineyard where they are grown. Their wines are also meant to be enjoyed right away, with the potential of improving with a few additional years of aging.

Their mission is to produce high quality, food friendly wines at an affordable price for the consumer using the finest quality grapes grown in an appropriate terroir, from appellations that are known and respected. They produce the Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon brands.

There are many wonderful famous as well as some not so well known areas in California Wine Country that are just right for an enjoyable day of wine tasting. It is always best to get off the beaten track and find the other gold that still exists and enjoy the beautiful scenery along these wine trails in this beautiful State.
