Plumpjack Winery

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California's landscape is as diverse as its people. From foggy coastlines to dry endless deserts, lush green mountains to rolling hills of vineyards. A morning of snow boarding in the mountains and then ocean kayaking at sunset, this glorious Golden State offers it all.

PlumpJack was founded by Gavin Newsom, whose personality is revealed in response to an expression of concern upon his first appointment to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors in 1997. The PlumpJack Winery's Estate Vineyard, founded in 1881, is nestled in the nape of the Vaca Mountain range on the eastern side of the Napa Valley. The main winery building, which is still in use, was completed in 1883. Vineyards have covered the Oakville site since the late 1800s.

In the more recent past, the facility where PlumpJack now makes its wine from was the original home of Villa Mount Eden Winery. It began in 1973 by James and Anne McWilliams, the vineyard and winery rapidly gained attention for producing dynamic, long-living wines, with particular emphasis on the estate and reserve Cabernet Sauvignons. Anthony Biagi has been actively involved in the business and art of winemaking for more than a decade. A native Californian and strongly influenced by the rich extracted Cabernets that are so prevalent in the Oakville region, Biagi has found a perfect home at the PlumpJack Winery.

Fifty acres of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards and the eternal splendor of Napa Valley surround the PlumpJack Winery. The winery's delightfully whimsical interior spaces are surrounded by the panoramic views of the Mayacamas and Vaca Mountains. PlumpJack Wines, PlumpJack's first enterprise, opened in 1992. From day one, their neighborhood-friendly pricing policy and consistently excellent service have made PlumpJack Wines one of the finest and most dependable shops in the Bay area. PlumpJack Wines has over 900 wines on hand, each selected by their knowledgeable wine buyers and staff.

There are many wonderful famous as well as some not so well known areas in California Wine Country that are just right for an enjoyable day of wine tasting. It’s always best to get off the beaten track and find the other gold that still exists and enjoy the beautiful scenery along these wine trails in this beautiful State.
