Schramsberg

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.

In 1965, Jack and Jamie Davies, after a yearlong search for hillside property in the Napa valley, and determined to change their way of life, happened upon an old decrepit winery on the mountainside above St. Helena. Schrensberg Vineyards is now being run by Jack and Jamie Davies youngest son, Hugh. There are 9 different types of wines namely J. Schram Rose, J. Schram, Reserve, Cremant, Brut Rose, Blanc de Noirs, Blanc de Blancs, Mirabelle and Mirabelle Brut Rose.

J. Schram Rose features rich baked strawberry and raspberry aromas with hints of cinnamon and cloves. The 1999 J. Schram is opened with aromas of glazed pineapple, orange marmalade and crisp green apples. A creamy yet refreshing wine, the 1999 J. Schram has a long, quenching, seamless finish. It has received 94 points and Best Wines of 2005 from Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine and 93 points and Cellar Selection from the Wine Enthusiast.

The Reserve is their top Pinot Noir-based sparkling wine. The aroma profile of their 2000 Reserve combines guava and lichee with baked Braeburn apples and Asian pears. There are also hints of toasted cinnamon and nutmeg spice with caramelized fruit essence. Cremant has hints of ginger spice to expand the fragrant intensity. Brut Rose is prepared from fresh lively tropical fruits and strawberries aromas with a hint of creme fraiche leap out of the glass with layers of citrus and pears.

The 2003 Blanc de Noirs bursts with a bright aromatic mixture of white peach, star fruit, toastedcoconut and just roasted almonds. It tastes of nectarines, peaches, white cherries and really captures the beauty of just ripened fruit. Blanc de Blancs is having toasty lemon limes and tropical aromas combine with hints of vanilla spice. The non-vintage Mirabelle combines the bright, vibrant fruit of the 2002 vintage with the equally dynamic wines of vintages past. With a shade brighter pink color than their vintage Rose, Mirabelle Brut Rose youthful wine features fresh raspberry and watermelon fragrances filled with hints of white cherries and freshly baked bread.

At Schramsberg, Hugh has led the ongoing effort to fine-tune winemaking and grape growing techniques, building upon the winery’s venerable track record of producing award-winning sparkling wines.
