Shenandoah Winery

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.

Shenandoah Vineyards was founded in 1977 by Shirley and Leon Sobon. They moved from Los Altos, California, where Leon was a Senior Scientist with the Lockheed Research Lab.  The selection of a winery site was well researched and the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County was selected. They and their six children moved to the old Steiner Ranch, planted a vineyard, and converted the old stone garage to a winery.

They have several wines namely 2005 Sauvignon Blanc, 2005 White Zinfandel, 2005 Zinfandel Special Reserve, 2005 Zinfandel Vintners Selection, 2004 Zingiovese, 2003 Cab-Shiraz, 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintners Selection, 2004 ReZerve Tempranillo, 2004 ReZerve Barbera, 2003 ReZerve Zinfandel, Paul's Vineyard, 2004 ReZerve Sangiovese, 2004 ReZerve White Port, 2003 Vintage Port, 2004 Black Muscat, Daphne Late Harvest Muscat, 2005 Viognier and 2005 Roussanne.

Shenandoah Winery won many awards like 2005 Sauvignon Blanc gold medal in San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, bronze medal in El Dorado, Calaveras, and Orange Couty Fair Wine Competition. 2004 Zinfandel Special Reserve silver medal in San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. 2004 Syrah double gold medal in El Dorado County Fair Wine Competition, 2005 Roussanne silver medal in Amador County Fair Wine Competition, 2003 ReZerve Zinfandel double gold medal in El Dorado County Fair Wine Competition, etc.

From the first offering of 1200 cases, the winery has continued to thrive, adjusting the portfolio of wines over the years, and is now producing about 30,000 cases per year.  Demand has been created because of skilled winemaking, marketing, financial planning, and strong family commitments to quality and service.  Only their own organically grown grapes are used. There are many wonderful famous as well as some not so well known areas in California Wine Country that are just right for an enjoyable day of wine tasting.
