St. Francis Vineyards

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.

Located in the heart of Sonoma Valley and founded in 1971, St. Francis Winery is committed to producing amazing full-bodied wines from 100 percent hand-picked Sonoma County grapes. In 1971, Joe Martin and his wife Emma purchased the 100 acre Behler Ranch Vineyard in Sonoma Valley, located in the historic town of Kenwood. St. Francis Winery was established and christened after St. Francis of Assisi, in recognition of the Saint’s role as a protector of the natural world and as acknowledgement of the Franciscan order, believed to have been the first to bring European grape farming to the new world.

St. Francis Winery and Vineyards, located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, produces big, bold, full-bodied wines that deliver on flavor. Each wine is produced from 100 percent hand-picked Sonoma County fruit and is a direct expression of their winemaking philosophy of maximum extraction, minimal intervention.

In the fall 1999 the construction of St. Francis’ new state of the art Winery facility was completed just in time for the 1999 harvest. The new Winery, with Hood Mountain as its charming backdrop is located on the Wild Oak Vineyard 1 mile west of the original Winery site in Sonoma Valley. Over the past twenty-five years, St. Francis has thoroughly built an imposing portfolio of vineyards that permits St. Francis to select only that fruit which exemplifies true varietals character of their premium wines.

St. Francis Winery’s promise to intensely flavored and complex wines begins in the vineyard. It is for that reason that Sonoma County, with it rich variety of interwoven soils, elevations and microclimates was selected as home to St. Francis Winery and Vineyards. Their winemaking team is a group of very talented and devoted people who have brought an obsession for the skill of winemaking as well as knowledge and finely honed skills to St. Francis Winery.

There are many wonderful famous as well as some not so well known areas in California Wine Country that are just right for an enjoyable day of wine tasting.
