Windward Vineyard

California, the most populous state of the United States, located on the Pacific coast of North America is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. The four largest cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and San Francisco. California is also the home of and wine producing regions such as Santa Barbara and Northern California's Wine Country.

Windward Vineyard is a small family winery devoted exclusively to the growth and production of estate bottled Burgundian-style Pinot Noir. Owners Marc and Maggie are persuaded that the site's rocky limestone, sloping well-drained soil and microclimate of the west side of the Paso Robles appellation had all the elements necessary to produce exceptional Pinot Noir. Windward Vineyard produces only, on the average, 1400 cases each year. Given the small production Windward Pinot Noir is typically found at small quality restaurants and retail shops and does not take pleasure in wide distribution.

Pinot Noir is the famous brand of Windward Vineyard. Named for the chilly Pacific Ocean winds that breeze through the Templeton Gap in the Santa Lucia Mountain Chain, on the Westside of Paso Robles, its Pinot Noir is indication to the unique microclimate and terroir of the region. In the late 1960's, consultant Andre Tchelistcheff supervised the Paso Robles Hoffman Mountain Ranch property of Dr. Stanley Hoffman. In the 1970's, Hoffman's Pinot Noirs achieved worldwide recognition, and were drinking well over 20 years later.

The goal of Windward Vineyard’s winemaking program is to create wines of uncompromising quality with optimum flavor and aromatic components that reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyards from which they come.
