Carlsbad is a coastal resort-town in northern San Diego County, California. In 2003, the population of the city was 90,271 and an area of 105.6 square kilometers. Carlsbad was incorporated in 1952. Carlsbad's history begins with the Luiseno people who located one of their villages, Palamai, near what is today Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Carlsbad's great beaches, local attractions, world class resorts, shopping and restaurants set the standard for being a complete vacation destination.
 
Each spring, the foothills of Carlsbad are transformed into a rainbow of vibrant colors. The Flower Fields host thousands of visitors from all over the world every year, during the peak ranunculus blooming season of March and April. This stunning show of mother nature is unique to North America.
