El Monte




California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia.

El Monte is a municipality in Los Angeles County, California, United States. In 2000, the population of the city was 115,965 and an area of 25.1 square kilometers. As of 2002, El Monte is the 191st largest city in the United States. It is also the 44th largest city in California. Longo Toyota, located in El Monte, claims to be the largest single auto dealership in the world. The community of El Monte was the first in California founded by American Anglos.  
 
In the city the population was spread out with 34.1 percent under the age of 18, 12.1 percent from 18 to 24, 31.5 percent from 25 to 44, 15.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 6.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 102.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.0 males.
