Lafayette

California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia.

Lafayette is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city's population was 23,908. The city is named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, the French military hero of the American Revolutionary War, one of many U.S. cities to be so named. Before the colonization of the region by Spain, Lafayette and its vicinity were inhabited by the Saclan tribelet of the indigenous Bay Miwok.
