The name was changed by popular vote in 1992 to emphasize the seaside location. According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 6.0 square kilometers and it is all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 13,067 people, 5,023 households, and 3,305 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,174.7 per square kilometers.
