San Leandro is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 79,453 inhabitants at the 2000 census. Weather is mild throughout the year.According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 40.3 square kilometers. As of the census of 2000, there were 79,452 people, 30,642 households, and 19,825 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,336.4 per square kilometers.

San Leandro was discovered on March 20, 1772 by Spanish soldier Captain Pedro Fages and the Spanish Catholic priest Father Crespi.
