As of the census of 2000, there were 31,615 people, 11,404 households, and 7,595 families residing in the city and population density was 582.9 square kilometers.

West Sacramento located in Yolo County, is separated from the city of Sacramento and Sacramento County by the Sacramento River. West Sacramento was incorporated in 1987 and consists of 4 areas namely Evergreen, Broderick, Bryte, and Southport. Southport is newest and resulted from a housing boom in the early 1960s.
