American Canyon




California is the most populous state of the United States. Located on the Pacific coast of North America, it is bordered by Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Mexico. California is known for its pleasant climate and ethnically diverse population. The name California is most commonly believed derived from a storied paradise peopled by black Amazons and ruled by Queen Califia.

American Canyon is a city located in southern Napa County, California, 35 miles northeast of San Francisco. It is part of the Napa, California Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2004, the population was 13,156, up sharply from the 2000 census population of 9,774. The city was incorporated in 1992.
    
American Canyon is bounded geographically by the Napa River to the west, the foothills of the Sulphur Springs Mountains to the east, Vallejo to the south and vineyards and the Napa County Airport to the north. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.7 square kilometers, none of which is covered by water.
 
In the city the population is spread out with 28.4 percent under the age of 18, 7.6 percent from 18 to 24, 28.1 percent from 25 to 44, 22.5 percent from 45 to 64, and 13.4 percent who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.0 males.
