Lombard Street: A Different Way to Drive Downhill

The United States can be proud for all the unique and amazing attractions it possesses, some of them not only unique but strange or peculiar. Widely known as the most extraordinary road within the United States, Lombard Street is the crookedest road in America. Located from the Presidio to the Embarcadero, this steep red-bricked road is famous for its eight sharp switchbacks. The switchbacks were created as a solution to the 27 degree slope that makes the road quite difficult for pedestrians and drivers.

Lombard Street offers many different ways to enjoy its peculiarity. For example, the cable car of Powell-Hyde line always stops right at the top of the streets for a few moments so that passengers can take a look at the steeped hill. Moreover, if you are interested in driving down this hill you can do it as long as you are willing to obey the five mile-per-hour speed limit required by authorities. On the other hand, there are many people who prefer to walk up the hill. They usually began their little walk at the base of the road. Walking uphill allows visitors and tourists to hear and see the city from a different perspective. If you are visiting San Francisco, do not miss your chance to experience a new way to look at the city and to experience the crookedest street in the United States.
