The Charles Krug Winery was established in 1861 and is owned and operated by the Peter Mondavi Family. Since 1943, three generations of the Peter Mondavi Family have been pioneers and innovators in the Napa Valley wine industry. It is located one and a half miles north of St. Helena. Their new 1861 Appellation Portfolio debuts with their 2004 Carneros Chardonnay, 2004 Carneros Pinot Noir and 2004 St. Helena Zinfandel.
Carneros Chardonnay Vines started growing a month earlier than normal. The Carneros region's cool nights and warm days, tempered by morning fog, creates an ideal climate to develop Chardonnay fruit which delivers elegance and complexity. Delicate flavors of pear, pineapple and orange blossom make this an ideal wine for food pairing with dishes such as Creamy Gruyere and Shrimp Pasta.
At Charles Krug Winery, their winemaking is a dynamic process where diversity is created by tailoring vinification and cellar practices to the individual vineyard lots, Helena appellation Zinfandel is complemented with Howell Mountain fruit. Their St. Helena Vineyards, planted on rocky soils, yield wines with deep color, intense structure and body, whereas their Howell Mountain Vineyard delivers spice and concentration. Aged in small French and American oak barrels for 10 months, their blend finishes with smoky notes of brown sugar and cinnamon.
