San Clemente is the southernmost city in the county, six miles south of San Juan Capistrano. Its location makes it the only city in Orange County closer to San Diego than to Los Angeles. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 47.6 square kilometers. As of the city's 2005 census, there were 65,338 people and 25,514 housing units in the city.
